This 60-page comic book is about the early days of World War II and was published in 1941 by the Musson Book Company Ltd. of Toronto. It was purchased for 25 cents at a cigar store in Hamilton in the winter of 1941-42. The title is Mean Scamp-F and the author is Pte. Harry Hall, from the 46th Battalion Canadian Infantry, 1914-1918.

This is a fascinating old comic book – and it was written by a Canadian.

Emphasis mine. Because that amuses me for reasons best left unexplored.

Victory Bond Triple Threat!

I'm not even going to go for the easy Canada joke here. I just find it face-warpingly awesome that they apparently had their choice of three separate ways to finance Hitler-abuse during the War:

Hmmm..."Attacked by an eagle and bulldog" is nice...as is "Hitting him with a honking big hammer"...but you know, my money is definitely earmarked for "Throttled and then devoured by a giant chicken."

But really, nothing's bad on that menu.
