Here's a Twofer!

Mainly because I'm way too lazy to split these into more than one cartoon.

I'm not comfortable with calling the one on the left a 'giant fist'...too bad.

These cartoons were by Kansas City Star political cartoonist S. J. Ray, and can be purchased here.

Thanks to rcs.

I'm Not Whimsical Enough...

...to come up with a hokey rhyme here. Suffice it to say, there is nothing more awesome than:

Oh the places you'll be blown to...
A Dr. Seuss Tank About To Lay
Some Smackdown On Hitler!

I've discovered a bit of a treasure trove of Seuss right here.

There Is No 'I' in 'Team'

But there is a Hitler in a press!

Having Stalin on the side of a free press is a little hilarious, though.

The Allies team up in another cartoon from here, courtesy of Olaf.

I totally forgot to actually give the artist credit yesterday, but from the link, it was Alexandre Saroukhan.

More Hitler Pig Caricatures?

Sure.

But I'm not making a week out of it.

Mainly because this is all I have:

Apparently, this pig has two asses.

I don't really have much information on this other than that it's entitled "Hitler-Herring" (which I assume is Goering), and was made in 1942 by an apparently Soviet artist named V. Galba.

rcs discovered this image here.

No-Theme Week, Day IV!

As alert reader (and avid Billy Joel fan1) Kaleb pointed out yesterday on the HGP Facebook page,2 "No Theme" is a sort of theme. So by not having a theme, I have a theme, and therefore have not stuck to my theme.

I have failed again.

On an unrelated and therefore related note, here's a picture of Hitler getting indigestion due to the machinations of Senator Claude Pepper:

That looks less like a swastika, and more like the letter 'E' dancing to the Bangles.
Cartoon originally drawn by Lynn Brudon, and submitted by rcs.

  1. You're going to sue me for libel, aren't you Kaleb?
  2. Which I have been forced to name "H1tler Getting Punched" because apparently the thought of hurting Hitler offends people.

Just Another Monday Hitler-Lynching

Nothing to see here...

I do like the Rising Sun and Swastika branches. Make my satire heavy-handed, please.

I was originally aiming for a Columbus Day tie-in, but if I don't get the day off from work, you don't get a theme.

Thanks to Ali, who got this from that very confusing Hitler Library. No idea who drew it, when, or where, though.

The Greatest Thing I Have Ever Seen

I normally don't put a second post up in a single day. But goddamn, Olaf just sent me The Greatest Thing I Have Ever Seen.

I present you with Aaron Bir's "History Reimagined."

His guidelines are simple:

I'm asking for three things from you dear reader:

1. a historical figure
2. a location
3. an awkward situation

If it makes me laugh or intrigues me it will be a comic on Wednesday.
And someone apparently dipped into my pscyhe:

I have tears in my eyes.
The guidelines?

1. Adolf Hitler
2. High above Germany
3. Getting punched by a polio ridden FDR, in jet packs

Oh god, this is glorious.

You Know What I've Missed?

A Good Ol' Fashioned Hitler Beatdown!

Ol' Adolf done got hisself into a mess a' trouble, huh?
Don't we all feel much better now?

Another fine piece of Hitler Punchery from cartoonist Willard Wetmore Combes.

Another thanks to Olaf.

Bear Week 5: Nerds in Paradise

Before HGP is accused of partisan hackery in it's pro-Chicago Bears slant, allow me to present the following pic submitted by longtime reader and occasional contributor Mark:

I'm an Arizona Cardinals fan, but I can appreciate a good shot of a bear eating Hitler as much as the next guy.

Keep smiling, Hitler. Keep right on smiling.
Don't we all?

Per the website where Mark discovered this: the cartoon is basically stating that the Non-Aggression Pact will devour Hitler. I prefer to think this cartoon is stating that Hitler needs to be eaten by a bear.

Bear Week 2: The Quickening.

And unlike Highlander 2, this one is arguably better than the original (instead of the 3rd or 4th worst thing Connery has ever done):

Not counting things Connery has done in his home life.
Another cartoon by the talented Willard Wetmore Combes.

Who gets the hat tip? Why Olaf gets the hat tip.

It's Bears Week!

It's early September in Chicago as I write this, and that can only mean one thing: our baseball teams are pretty much out of contention. Which means the whole town has one thing in mind.

And with that, here's a nominally related theme that I'm pretending has relevance!

I guess I'm implying Jay Cutler is a Communist.
Bear down!

Olaf submitted this picture, by an artist named A. W. Mackenzie, about whom I know nothing else.

As You Sow...

...you know the rest.

Today's Oblique Strategy: 'Gardening, not architecture.' Close enough.
This fantastic anti-Nazi cartoon was created by Stanislaw Toegel. More on him here.

Thanks to rcs, who discovered this piece of work here.

Time To Tidy Up

As I mentioned a few days ago, lately I've been using Oblique Strategies to determine which pic to put up each day.

Today, I was told to "Tidy Up."

As much as I love this picture, HGP normally endorses recycling.
So tidy up I did.

This was another work by Kukryniksy, the collective name of 3 cartoonists. It shows the editors of Krokodil magazine dumping out the remains of the Nazis.

Apparently the three men in the top corner are self-portraits of the artists.

I think about 3 or 4 people sent this one in to me, but rcs sent it first. I'm just going to assume Ali, Mark, and possibly Olaf also sent it at some time, to be safe.

It's Emo Drag Queen Tarot Hitler!

If I recall, the Hanged Man in a traditional deck means "surrender, martyrdom, or self-sacrifice."

In MY deck, the Hanged Nazi means...

No, really: is Hitler in a skirt?
"A Really Good Way to Spend a Monday."

I think the caption is in Dutch, and says something about the dream of someone in hiding. Anyone who actually has any knowledge of Dutch want to take a crack?
Thanks to Ali, who I too often forget to credit on submissions.

Really? Pincers Week?

Here's another little pic found at Olaf's link from Sunday.

I've never laughed more at internal injuries.
Sweet, sweet Hitler Pinching. I'm hoping I can scrounge up enough of you to make this theme worthwhile.

Translation (as on Sunday):
What they wrote: The actions of the Social Democrats have pinched the Nazis (September 1932)

What happened: Before these laughable Socialist pliers could squeeze the National Socialist German Workers' Party, Hitler's hammer had destroyed the SPD.

Yeah, you might not want to brag about hammers...

Seriously, folks: I'm scanning my on-deck pictures for more pincer fun, but if you happen to find any, feel free to send them to HitlerPuncher @ gmail dot com.

"Ach! I don't even know why I did that!"

This is an interesting one...it's an anti-Hitler cartoon published by the Nazis...

No, really.

You can read more about it here, but more or less, it's from a book refuting the claims of anti-Nazi cartoonists, which reprints the cartoons.

Such as this dandy little number:

I never thought I'd ever approve of something Hitler did, but here we are...
From the link above, a translation of what the book claims:
What they wrote: Simplicissimus (a satirical magazine) suggested in January 1928 that the NSDAP would split so often that in the end only Hitler would be left.

What happened:
The NSDAP did not split, but Hitler was in fact left alone—but in an entirely different sense. Today in Germany there are no parties or party leaders other than Hitler.
Of course, when all is said and done, it's a picture of Hitler hitting himself in the face with an axe. And that is good enough for me.

Thanks to Olaf, who submitted this is time to make this pretty much the unofficial "Axe Week."

You Want More Axes?

We got 'em!

I hope this is a storyboard from a alternate ending to Inglourious Basterds.
This mathematical proof of the bisection of Hitlers on a Euclidean plane was created by Ken Rolfe, a British citizen whose journal of cartoons from late in the war have been donated to the Cartoon Art Trust Museum in London.

Olaf tipped me off to this one.

What Goes Around...

If David Irving took over John Ostrander's Suicide Squad.
...HITS HITLER IN THE FRIGGIN' HEAD.

I have no artist credit, but I can say this was submitted by Olaf.

Also, this entry has my most obscure Alt-Text reference ever.

Blow Him Sky High, Boys!

Our fighting men may have struggled mightily to defeat the greatest evil the world has ever known, but that didn't mean they couldn't have fun along the way.

I would love to see Droopy take on Hitler.
The caricatures on the bomb were drawn by legendary cartoon director Tex Avery, which is pretty amazing. I'd be lucky to get a fill-in artist from Tiny Toons for my gag bomb.

This was submitted by rcs, who discovered it here.

More Patriotic Hitler Abuse!

From the creator of Mondo Men Battle Hitler comes this other gem (sadly unfinished):

Side note: I may have drunkenly hooked up with Lady USA in college...awkward...
Scott Saavedra may consider these failures, but he clearly has a different yardstick for success than I do. Because, as Scott McCloud says (uh...more or less), it's the space between the last panel and my mind where the Hitler Punching occurs...

Thanks to rcs for pointing me to this.
